Craig Walsh – Film Director in the making….
In the past two months, our school Coláiste Lorcáin has filmed and released a promotional video featuring the activities and facilities available to the students and staff. This video is especially targeted at incoming first years and prospective students.
With magnificent overhead shots of the surrounding area using a drone the viewer can take a look at the wide range of sports on offer such as rugby, GAA and basketball. The film features many glimpses into our real-life classroom situations day-to-day. No production company was employed in the making, yet this video is top quality. What’s even more impressive is behind it all is a TY student by the name of Craig Walsh. Under the guidance of Craig’s English Teacher, Elaine Campbell, three jam packed months of filming, taking shots, and editing were involved in his process of making this video as professional as it could be.
With a real passion for videoing and editing, Craig has produced this video and this has served to be a great learning experience for Craig’s clear future in filming. On behalf of the school we would like to send a warm thanks to Craig for all his commitment and determination in this project as it has allowed the school to highlight not only the true talent within the school community, but also its full potential and excellence in education. Reel Life Winners!!
To mark the start of Science Week 2016, three students from Coláiste Lorcáin in Castledermot, Oisin Hott, Finn Doyle and Isaac Akinsete, were awarded second prize in the N.U.I Galway Reel Life Science film award. Their video was selected by a panel of Special Guest Judges from over 200 short science videos, produced by more than 2,000 students in 104 schools around Ireland. Based in NUI Galway and supported by the Science Foundation Ireland Discover programme and the CÚRAM Centre for Research in Medical Devices, ReelLIFE SCIENCE challenges Irish schools to communicate science via engaging and educational short videos.
