BETT Award for Coláiste Chill Mhantáin

A group of Fifth Year students from Coláiste Chill Mhantáin were successful in their bid of having our school chosen as "Pioneer School " as Part of the Ultimaker Pioneer Challenge. This group was the only Irish Award winner at this year’s international conference held in London.

The success of the students culminated in a delegation from the school travelling to the BETT (British Educational Training and Technology) conference in London to receive a reward of an Ultimaker 3D Printer together with a years’ worth of supplies and training.

By encouraging these contributors to share resources such as 3D printing lessons, programs, labs, and classroom experiences. It is envisaged that the program will facilitate collaboration and innovation amongst educators, eventually culminating into a series of modern curricula which teachers can use to effectively bring 3D printers into the classroom.

As Part of the selection process the school put forward the "One trolley at a time" project as a basis for their selection.

The competition involved schools from throughout Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the UK and submitting entries as to how they would use 3D Printing Technology to increase knowledge, boost creativity, and develop key skills in several different subjects – from math to engineering to art.

As part of the Pioneer program Mr McVicar will now be listed amongst the ranks of educational 3D printing “Pioneers.”

So far the printer has been put to good use in prototyping designs in the schools engineering and DCG Departments.
