Enhanced Learning in Bray Youthreach with Work & Life Skills
Enhancing work skills and skills for life has been the focus in Bray & North Wicklow Youthreach for the past few months. This has resulted in a number of changes to our programme which are driven by the need to not only provide a quality education for our students, but also to create an environment in which they can develop and grow as young adults. The centre has broadened its scope in terms of subject offerings and is now offering students the opportunity to pursue their interests during their 2 year QQI Certificate programme. This includes the addition of a new Kitchen Skills module for which students who are interested in the food and hospitality industry as a career and study path can apply. It also includes plans for a new Art Programme to ensure the many creative students in the centre are supported to pursue and improve their talents with a view to planning for their future.
Our continued relationship with Bray Area Partnership and other organisations has once again opened up some great opportunities for our students to complement their QQI certificate. Five of our students successfully completed SafePass training and four other students completed Barista training. We also introduced a Peer Leadership Programme in partnership with Connect BNYP which ran for 10 weeks in the lead up to Christmas. This programme is designed to equip and empower young people to take on a leadership role amongst their peers.
