Dear Friends …

Almost one year ago my family lost our rock , my mom-in-love . Inez Collins answered to many names . Wife , Sister , Mom , and Gramma are a few but to us she was Miamma . You know how the first grandchildren get to pick the name ? Well , my husband ’ s brother ’ s two children had already chosen Gramma so Gramma she was . Until my oldest , Ryan , was born . When Ryan was a tiny tot learning to pronounce his first words , G ’ s were particularly difficult and usually came out sounding like an M . So , Gramma became Miamma in our house . Inez could have pushed for Ryan to call her Gramma once his G ’ s came in but she didn ’ t . That ’ s who she was . The most selfless person I ’ ve ever met . Whether she and Poppy came to visit us or we went to visit them , every available moment was dedicated to whatever her grandchildren wanted to do . Most of the time playing board games , card games or a puzzle were the chosen activity . She spent hours on end investing in her grandchildren . You know what I never heard ? “ Later ” or “ In a bit ”. Not once .
I was 23 when my mom passed away at the age of 50 , just 5 months before I married my husband John . My mom wasn ’ t here to see my wedding vows , nor was she able to meet my children . Losing your mom leaves a hole that cannot be filled however , in her place I was given an incredible woman that left such a Godly example and legacy I could only hope for . She was a pillar of faith and so full of grace and wisdom I am only now beginning to understand and appreciate .
Speaking of selfless …. If you have ever considered becoming a foster parent , or would like to hear about ways to support foster care in our community , please contact Tuscaloosa Angels ( more information found on pages 26-27 ).
