How to Properly Dispose of Your Unwanted Prescription Medications

Did you know ? Flushing your prescription medication down the toilet can cause issues in the water supply . Most wastewater treatment plants are not equipped to remove pharmaceuticals from the wastewater . That means that many of the medications flushed can potentially pollute our water supply , harm aquatic life and contaminate our food and water supplies . So , what should you do with unused or expired prescriptions ? In our area , you have two options that are extremely convenient . First , you can participate in the U . S . Drug Enforcement Administration ’ s twice yearly National Drug Take Back events . One will be held April 30 , 2022 and another will be held in October . P . R . I . D . E . of Tuscaloosa proudly partners with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force for these events to provide multiple locations throughout Tuscaloosa County where we accept old , unused and expired prescriptions . Second , you can take them to the following Drop Boxes located inside the following precincts .
