Ann ’ s over 30 years of professional art education experience in the Tuscaloosa City and County schools blend her career knowledge and academic training into an innovative approach to art instruction . Along with after school classes , Ann also offers Summer Camp classes . Children ’ s Summer camps are two weeks long Mon-Thurs from 12:30pm to 2:30pm .

Capitol School ’ s Summer Explorations 2023
Summer Explorations 2023 starts its 30th year at Capitol School located in historic downtown Tuscaloosa . The program began on the campus of The University of Alabama where it was known as “ Something Special ” for 20 summers until 1993 . It has now grown to 10 weeks of four sessions . Parents can select morning ( 8:00-12:00 ) and afternoon classes ( 1:00-5:00 ) to create a full day of classes from 8:00 to 5:00 with morning arrival starting at 7:30 a . m . and the teacher staying until 5:30 p . m . for parent pick-up . When parents enroll for both morning and afternoon sessions and send a lunch — we provide supervision at no charge from noon until 1:00 daily . Parents can fit classes at Capitol School around morning or afternoon plans such as swimming lessons or Bible School .
Capitol School ’ s philosophy of providing learning opportunities for your child ’ s Multiple Intelligences is evident in the many classes offered this summer . Capitol School ’ s emphasis on Science , Technology , Engineering and Mathematics continues across the summer . You ’ ll find many STEM related classes along with reading , art , Spanish , and music .
We haven ’ t forgotten the babies ! We offer DHR certified classes for young children ages 1 - 36 months . Children can enroll by the month for June , July and August as long as space is available . Limit of 5 children per class for infants and crawlers . All teachers are CPR trained with background checks . DHR requires that all children ages 2.5 - 5 years be “ potty-trained ” as no diaper changing facilities are allowed in the Preschool .
Preschool classes ( ages 2.5-5 ) span the 10 weeks of summer with morning and afternoon classes : Cooking with Children ’ s Literature All World Travelers Art , Dance & Music Around the World Rocking Rainbows Wonders of Nature Marvelous Mindfulness Sensorial Exploration Where in the World are the Dinosaurs ?
Four sessions begin on May 30 , June 20 , July 5 and July 23 . Elementary students can enroll in just one or all 8 sessions in the grade they have just completed or the grade they will be starting in August .
