Interview: Ishmeet Singh, Country Head, Mattel Toys India Pvt. Ltd.

Mattel Toys( India) Pvt. Ltd. a subsidiary of Mattel, Inc., the worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of toys and family products, will participate once again at Kids India 2016. Ishmeet Singh, the recently appointed Country Manager at Mattel Toys India Pvt. Ltd. was kind enough to take the time to tell us about Mattel’ s fair participation, about his personal expectations and experiences regarding Kids India as well as about the Indian toy market in general.
Spielwarenmesse eG: How do you explain the success of Kids India?
Ishmeet Singh: We, at Mattel India, have seen the quality of both exhibitors and visitors improve, making Kids India the place to be for every toy professional. There is no other trade fair in the industry in India which is organized in such a professional manner and with the same international flair. From its start, Kids India has proven to be the leading trade fair for the toy industry in India and we are glad to be a part of it.
Spielwarenmesse eG: What product highlights can the visitors expect from Mattel at Kids India 2016?
Ishmeet Singh: We are extremely lucky to have some of the most iconic brands in the Mattel portfolio. And in 2017, you will see innovative products that focus on delivering each brand’ s promise and bring these brands to life. For instance, in 2017, we will be continuing Barbie’ s empowering message to all girls that“ You Can Be Anything.” We invite girls to experiment who they want to become through the power of play. And in spring 2017, we have new products that enable little girls to try on diverse roles from fairies who live in a sweetsfilled kingdom to soccer players to ballerinas.
Another example – Fisher-Price – the leading Infant and Preschool brand supports the best possible start for all kids. Fisher-Price is an expert in early childhood development and through purposeful play delivers on a portfolio that covers children from 0 to 5 years of age. In 2017, Fisher- Price will highlight new toys that develop kids in fun and delightful ways – specifically a new focus on learning toys for our preschool consumer: from a caterpillar that
teaches kids early coding to a chameleon that teaches color mixing.
These are examples from just two of our exciting brands and products to see. Of course, we also have new news from the rest of our core brands. We also partner with leading entertainment companies and help them bring forth innovative products backed by huge blockbuster theatricals like Disney Cars 3, Fast & Furious 8, Justice League( in fall 2017). We cannot wait to show you the full line!
Spielwarenmesse eG: How do you evaluate the Indian toy market, its potential and its development within the next years?
Ishmeet Singh: India continues to be a key market for Mattel. We evaluate the overall toy market and potential by always solving for the consumer. The opportunity to reach our Indian consumer in new and meaningful ways is tremendous. We want to ensure we continue to delight our consumers in new and innovative ways. So our toys and consumer products teams are constantly exploring new ideas for toys, new opportunities to collaborate with partners,
and new areas to invest. Mattel strives to be the leader in play, learning, and development.
Spielwarenmesse eG: And now a more personal question. Do you have a favorite toy or game?
Ishmeet Singh: As a parent – I have indulged my children with many of the exciting play patterns from the company. Their favorites have been Hot wheels tracksets, Fisher Price rock-a-stacks and many more. For me, I still cherish the special moment playing a game of scrabble or UNO with kids.
