As a parent, finding the perfect holiday present
for your child is the ultimate paradox. You’re choosing
a gift for a child who probably already has every toy
imaginable. You’ll see them open it with glee and
then face fitting another plaything into your home
which is already busting at the seams. How can you
enjoy, cherish and participate in the gift-giving part
of the holiday season as a parent while still managing
the toy overload happening at home?
Choose toys that provide the most value in the
child's experience. Select toys that are not isolated to
one skill or task, rather those offering a variety of
challenging and engaging skills that grow with the
child. Also, look for toys that are open-ended and can
be played with repeatedly in many different ways, like
instruments, pretend and imaginary play, and those
promoting skills in science, engineering, technology
and math (STEM).
