FROM THE COMMISH
COMMISSIONER ' S LETTER
LIFE INSURANCE AWARENESS MONTH written by Commissioner Vicki Schmidt, Kansas Insurance Dept.
As September was Life Insurance Awareness Month, it is a good time to talk about unclaimed life insurance policies. In 2024 alone, over $ 26 million recovered for Kansans in 2024 through the Life Insurance Policy Locator( LIPL). The Kansas Department of Insurance has helped Kansas consumers find and collect more than $ 97 million from lost or unclaimed life insurance policies using the LIPL since 2019.
If you or a client believes they may have a policy to claim visit the at https:// eapps. naic. org / life-policylocator /. All requests are free and confidential. Individuals who believe they are beneficiaries and executors, or legal representatives of a deceased person may submit a search request. Insurance companies receive the request, search their records, and directly contact the requester if there is a match, typically within 90 business days.
On another note, we had another successful free CE session of the Know Your Regulator series on August 26 on how to utilize Licensee Lookup and SBS and NIPR resources. We had over 1,000 attendees! We really enjoy co-hosting with KAIA on these sessions and hope to bring more in 2026!
“ We really enjoy cohosting with KAIA on
