YAK
YOUNG AGENTS of KANSAS
SBS Insurance Agency Seneca , KS ( 785 ) 336-2821 sbsins . com
How did you get into the industry ? I was looking for an internship in college at Kansas State . I was fortunate enough to find one in the insurance industry as an adjuster to start my career .
What benefits do Young Agents bring to the industry ? We can bring positive change and ideas to the way agencies conduct business . In our agency , young agents have been given a voice . We have helped establish new ways to get business in the door . Social media has been one example of this .
How do you see the Industry changing in the next 5-10 years ? I believe the insurance industry will increase virtual relationships with customers . COVID-19 has shown us that virtual relationships can be successful . A business that used to be completed in person will evolve to virtual . As successful as our virtual business has been over the last few months , I think agents must visit the customers in person . Also , technology is always advancing , which means there is always change . New technology can advance ways of doing business and simplify the process .
What has been your greatest resources in this industry and why ? People have been my most incredible resource . Specifically , those people have been colleagues and managers along the way . Most young agents lack expertise , and what better way to learn than from someone who has “ been there , done that ?”
Years in Industry : 10 years
What is your greatest reward as an independent insurance agent ? The greatest reward is being there for people during their time of need . I have seen maximum liability claims and total loss homes . These sizeable losses are never enjoyable , but insurance can help put a smile back on the customer ’ s face .
What advice would you like to share with Principals who have been in the business for more than 10 years ? I ’ m at 10 years now , but I would find techniques to keep a good work-life balance . There is always work to be completed , but family is just as important .
What are your future plans ? In the future , I plan to keep growing my book of business and help the local communities in my area continue to thrive .
What advice would you give to an incoming young agent ? Stay active in the community and continue to build your network of customers and prospects . Building a book takes time and it will not happen overnight .
