WHAT ' S THE FORECAST? ' 25 KS STORM DATA
SEVERE STORM EVENTS REMAIN HIGH written by Dave Hulcher, KAIA
The newly released Kansas Storm Events Report highlights that while overall number of storms may have decreased in 2025, the severity and insurance impact of weather events remains a consistent and growing concern.
Kansas experienced 2,097 total annual storm events in 2025, approximately 20 % below the 25-year average and among the lowest annual totals over that period. However, this decline in total events tells only part of the story. Severe storm activity continued to trend above average, with 2025 nearly 30 % higher than the long-term average despite being slightly lower than 2024 levels. This pattern underscores a critical takeaway: fewer storms does not necessarily mean less risk.
For independent agents, an environment of more severe weather events creates the opportunity to have proactive coverage conversations with customers which can add value and deepen relationships.
