LEGAL REFORM / DISASTER RESILIENCY
In addition to tax and agricultural issues, we discussed national reforms to the legal system, especially regarding third-party litigation funding( TPLF). We asked our representatives to support the Litigation Transparency Act of 2025( H. R. 1109), which would require the disclosure of TPLF agreements in civil cases, citing concerns about foreign investment and secrecy undermining the fairness of the U. S. court system. Furthermore, the Big“ I” highlighted the need for federal support of disaster mitigation efforts through legislation such as the Fix Our Forests Act( H. R. 471) and the Disaster Resiliency and Coverage Act( H. R. 1105), as well as the reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program( NFIP), which is set to expire on September 30.
HEALTH CARE REFORM
Robert Richey, who is on the Big“ I” Health Care Subcommittee, led discussion on the health care issues. From an individual coverage perspective, we advocated to allow anyone to contribute to an HSA account by removing the requirement for individuals to be enrolled in a Qualified High-Deductible Health Plan.
Regarding group health insurance, Richey encouraged the removal of red tape for the employer by changing the annual filing requirements to an“ Annual Attestation” instead of plethora of current required filings such as the 1095 forms and Prescription Cost reports. This would allow employers to be considered compliant, unless something is found in an IRS or DOL audit. This would allow businesses to focus more time on their core business operations and less on administrative hurdles.
