On the advocacy front, Dave wants to see KAIA ' s Voter Voice platform used more effectively to educate Kansas lawmakers about issues that affect independent agents. " I ' d like to see us do a better job of getting our members ' voices in front of legislators," he says. " It ' s a powerful tool – we just need to use it more consistently."
When asked about the biggest challenge facing independent agents today, Dave points to consolidation. " I worry about smaller independent agencies – a single location with five employees – feeling like they have no choice but to merge," he says. " I want to see local agencies stay local. That ' s good for consumers, and it ' s the future I want for this industry."

Valerie Gardner is the Director of Marketing for KAIA and has been with the Association for almost four years. She has over 35 years of marketing experience.
LIFE OUTSIDE THE OFFICE
Dave and his wife Tricia – an occupational therapist – are based in Hutchinson, Kansas, and are about to become empty nesters. Their oldest daughter Grace recently graduated from law school and is working at a law firm in New York City. Their middle daughter Emma is a civil engineer in Dallas. And their youngest, Sam, graduates from high school this May and will be heading to Kansas State University to pursue an engineering degree.
