COMMISSIONER ' S LETTER

SEPTEMBER IS LIFE INSURANCE AWARENESS MONTH written by Commissioner Vicki Schmidt, Kansas Department of Insurance
As September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, it is a good time to talk about unclaimed life insurance policies to date. Over $ 31 million was recovered for Kansans in 2025 alone through the Life Insurance Policy Locator( LIPL). The Kansas Department of Insurance has helped Kansas consumers find and collect more than $ 128 million from lost or unclaimed life insurance policies using the LIPL since 2019.
If you or a client believes they may have a policy to claim visit the NAIC Life Policy Locator website at https:// eapps. naic. org / life-policy-locator /. All requests are free and confidential. Individuals who believe they are beneficiaries and executors, or legal representatives of a deceased person may submit a search request. Insurance companies receive the request, search their records, and directly contact the requester if there is a match, typically within 90 business days.
