When I was asked to choose YAK ' s 2026 Community Service Project, I didn ' t have to think twice.
A few years ago, a friend suggested that my son, who is healthy, active, and loves sports, get a routine heart screening through My HeartCheck.
He had no symptoms and no reason to believe anything was wrong. Like many parents, I almost decided not to do it.
Thankfully, we did.
That simple screening revealed a serious heart abnormality that required immediate, life-saving surgery. Without it, we may never have known there was a problem until it was too late.
Our family is forever grateful, and that ' s why this year ' s project is so personal to me.
Today, I ' m asking our incredible KAIA family to help give other Kansas families that same peace of mind.
Our Goal: Fund 30 Heart Screenings
Each My HeartCheck screening costs $ 179, and YAK ' s goal is to raise $ 5,500 to provide 30 life-saving heart screenings for Kansas children and young athletes statewide.
Many heart conditions have no warning signs, but early detection can make all the difference.
Every dollar counts.
