PRESIDENT ' S LETTER

WORKING TOGETHER ON THE FUTURE OF OUR INDUSTRY written by David Vogel, KAIA President, ProValue Insurance
It is an honor to write to you for the first time as President of the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents. I am grateful for the trust placed in me and excited to serve independent agents across our state during a time of both challenge and opportunity.
Independent insurance agents have always thrived at the intersection of trust, expertise, and adaptability. While the tools and technologies around us continue to evolve at a rapid pace, the core strength of the independent agency system remains unchanged: relationships, local knowledge, and the ability to serve clients as true advisors.
Agency management today, however, looks very different than it did even a decade ago. Leaders are balancing talent shortages, rising operational costs, increasing regulatory demands, and fast-moving technological change – all while meeting higher expectations from consumers who want speed, transparency, and personalized service. The challenge is real, but so is the opportunity.
As I begin my term, my commitment is to listen, advocate, and help position our members for long-term success. Through KAIA, we will continue to protect the independent agents, provide relevant education & resources, and ensure your voice is heard. The strength of our association has always come from engaged members who believe in the value of independence.
The future of the independent insurance industry is not something happening to us – it is something we are actively shaping together. With strong agency management, thoughtful leadership development, and a willingness to adapt while staying true to our values, independent agents will continue to play a vital role in protecting Kansas families and businesses for generations to come.

Thank you for your leadership, your resilience, and your continued involvement in KAIA. I look forward to serving you. •

The future of the independent agency belongs to those who lead intentionally. Strong agency management is no longer just about production and profitability; it’ s about culture, succession, and sustainability. Agencies that invest in their people – through training, mentorship, and clear career paths – will be best positioned to attract and retain the next generation of professionals. This is not optional. It is foundational.
Technology will continue to play a growing role, but it should enhance, not replace, the agent-client relationship. Automation, data analytics, and digital tools can improve efficiency and free agents to focus on what matters most: advising clients, solving problems, and building long-term trust. Agencies that approach technology strategically – rather than reactively – will gain a competitive edge without losing their identity.
