FROM THE COMMISH
A NEW YEAR BRINGS NEW OPPORTUNITY
KANSAS INSURANCE DEPARTMENT UPDATES written by Comm . Vicki Schmidt , KID
Happy 2023 ! The start of the new year has been an exciting time for me . On January 9 , I began my second term as Kansas Insurance Commissioner . I am honored to serve the Kansas insurance industry as Commissioner and I am eager to build upon our successes from my first term , especially related to licensing . Here are a few things we ’ ve been working on :
• In our continued effort to pass Department savings back to Kansans , we recently reduced the fingerprint fee associated with licensure from $ 60 to $ 50 .
• Monicka Richmeier was promoted to Director of the Licensing Division . Monicka has been with the Insurance Department since October 2021 and has quickly shown herself to be a valued asset to the Department .
• The Insurance Department is pursuing a livescan fingerprint machine for our office to help provide another location for applicants to quickly and efficiently get fingerprinted for licensure . Our efforts to expand livescan access over the past year has resulted in nearly 20 new locations across Kansas for applicants to be fingerprinted .
As the Department charts out goals for the next four years , your input and suggestions are always welcome . If there is a process you think could work better or you have ideas for improving Kansans ’ experience with the insurance industry , please reach out and share your thoughts by emailing kid . commissioner @ ks . gov .
Thank you for all you do for Kansans ! Here ’ s to a great 2023 ! •
• To make our licensing process more efficient and to better align with the practicalities of application completion , the Department is now requiring all insurance applications to be completed within six months instead of 12 months .
