How did you get into the insurance industry? At Easter dinner in 2010 I asked Loretta Wilson, my wife’ s grandmother, how she got into crop insurance. She convinced me to take the test that May and I became an agent under her small crop agency. I spent a couple years working for Heritage Bank in Wood River, NE, and then moved back home to work with Loretta again in 2013.
What do advantages do young agents offer? I believe that young agents catch on to new technology very quickly, they see new popular trends / risks, and they are socializing with the next generation of insureds. A young agent is definitely going to add life to any good agency.
Who / what have been your greatest resources in this industry and why? Mark Lowry has been a huge resource for me with property & casualty insurance. He has a tremendous amount of knowledge and resources in insurance that I was not exposed to previously. Working with his team of agents has been a benefit to growing my book of business.
What is your greatest reward as an independent insurance agent? Providing for my family and helping to protect people in my area from disasters. It is also very rewarding to deliver that claim check when my customer is in need.
What advice would you share with the leaders of this industry? Reach out to the next generation, tell them about what you do, and let them know that there is opportunity in insurance for them as well.

What are your future plans? I plan to always live in north central Kansas, where I grew up and continue to grow our insurance business. I currently help manage three different locations and hope to continue to see them grow and succeed.
