Understanding the Importance of InsurPac
KAIA members hit their InsurPac contribution goal.
I am pleased to report that KAIA members were able to cross the finish line, hitting their 2017 InsurPac goal of $ 25,700. For those of you not familiar with InsurPac, it is our federal political action committee and plays a key role in the Big I’ s legislative success. Overall, InsurPac raised $ 1.1M this year. These funds will be used to give Big“ I” members a voice on Capitol Hill and help our national government affairs team protect the interests of independent agents. I want to thank all of the KAIA members that contributed to InsurPac and helped us reach our goal. This shows that we are pulling our weight on issues that affect agents on a national level.
I also wanted to share some interesting facts about InsurPac and breakdown details of Kansas member participation:
• A total of 111 KAIA individual members contributed to InsurPac, making the average contribution $ 244.60.
• 59 agencies made contributions making the average per agency contribution approximately $ 460.
• Of the 59 agencies who made contributions, 14 had multiple employees participate. o Elliott Insurance Group led the way with 12 employees, followed by Insurance Planning, Inc. with 7.
• 60 % of InsurPac contributions occur in January and December. Members should consider an automatic monthly credit contribution, from a cash flow perspective.
• If every member agency contributed roughly just $ 78 we would have reached our 2017 InsurPac goal.
• If every employee of our members contributed roughly $ 12 we would have reached our 2017 InsurPac goal.
• KAIA Young Agents generated approximately 11 % of funds raised for InsurPac and reached their goal.
• InsurPac is the 2nd largest insurance industry PAC at $ 1.1M, only trailing CIAB at $ 1.4M. NAIFA and PIA follow at $ 938K and $ 54K respectively.
• In the past, InsurPac’ s contribution to the KS delegation has exceeded KAIA’ s member contributions( by 50 % in 2016). That is a good return on our members investment.
• In 2016, InsurPac contributed about $ 250K to legislators sitting on Agriculture / Crop committees.
• Past KAIA President and retired agency owner, Sandy Broadstreet, is still making a difference with a $ 100 contribution. Thank you, Sandy.
While KAIA continues to fight for members in the Kansas statehouse,
DAVID HULCHER KAIA Executive Director
the Big“ I” Government Affairs team is doing the same in Washington, DC. The issues that they are focusing on include tax reform, crop and flood insurance, healthcare reform, Department of Labor regulations, and insurance regulatory oversight issues. Your contributions to InsurPac are important to making sure we are connected and have a voice. For 2018, I’ d like to set some of our own goals for KAIA members:
1. Let’ s set a goal that all agency employees will contribute $ 10 to InsurPac. Encourage them to pack a lunch instead of eating out one day and contribute to supporting their industry.
2. Instead of waiting until the last minute to make contributions, manage your contribution throughout the year with automatic monthly payments.
3. Can we get double the number of member agencies that currently contribute to InsurPac – 120 agencies?
Finally, I’ d like to recognize National Director Cindy Hower and Past President Lyle Davidson for their work in contacting members to make sure we met our goal.
