YAK: The Future of Kansas Agents Cooper Chapin

A s millennials start to become a larger portion of our client base, and companies such as Lemonade and other InsureTech startups make attempts to disrupt the more traditional agency model, we must acknowledge that our industry is experiencing some change.

I’ m reminded of something that Past Chair of the National Young Agents Committee Boyd McGehee often said,“ There is just something to be said about being in the same room with people that are of the same age, same industry and all who are driven to succeed.”
However, I see it as an exciting time for our business, and especially for young agents. Often times, young agents tend to bring an understanding of the latest technology and social media trends, which makes them uniquely positioned to play a key role within their agency as it moves into the future.
Our Young Agents committee is also very excited about the future of the Young Agents of Kansas( YAK). We’ re working hard to grow the program to help ensure the success of our industry’ s future leaders. I find it difficult to concisely list all of the benefits the program provides to Young Agents. Our focus is to promote the professional growth of young agents in the industry through leadership training, education, and great networking opportunities. Some of the other benefits are less tangible.

YOUNG AGENTS of KANSAS
With this in mind, we are really looking forward to the upcoming Young Agents events planned for 2017, starting with the YAK conference in February. Mark your calendars for the YAK Royals outing on June 23, 2017 and the YAK event at Leadership conference on October 4, 2017. Watch for regular YAK updates in the first newsletter of the month to find out how you can become involved.
To agency owners / principals, I strongly encourage you to invest in the future of your agency through the professional growth of your young agents by sending them to an upcoming YA event. Being part of the young agents program helps agency staff feel more invested in our great industry, ensuring that they remain a part of it well into the future. If you’ re a young agent who hasn’ t attended an event in the past, then come check us out.
During my involvement, I’ ve developed close relationships with other agents and company reps. Through sharing of success stories as well as discussing common challenges, you learn what may or may not be working for other agents throughout the state. The industry knowledge I’ ve gained through conversations with these individuals has been invaluable.
I promise you won’ t be disappointed and remember that Young Agent doesn’ t mean just“ young producer,” we encourage young CSR’ s and Account Executives to join us as well.
