Kansas agents Legislative day
Legislative day
with Agents is
a huge success
N
early 80 legislators and elected officials joined Kansas
independent insurance agents and brokers for a
steak dinner on February 10 at the 2016 Kansas
Agents Legislative Day.
The day began with a few opening words from House Speaker
Ray Merrick (R-Stilwell). Representatives Dan Hawkins
(R-Wichita) and Will Dove (R-Bonner Springs), along with
Senator Elaine Bowers (R-Concordia) also spent time meeting
with the agents.
Later in the day, Senator Jeff Longbine (R-Emporia) and
Representative Scott Schwab (R-Olathe) talked about the
current budget and session. KAIA Attorney Will Larson gave
an update on current KAIA legislative affairs.
After the KAIA update, Eric Stafford, vice president of
government affairs for the Kansas Chamber and Duane
Gossen, a senior fellow with Kansas Center for Economic
Growth (KCEG) discussed how the current budget issues
could affect small business owners. Agents then had
the opportunity to participate in a Q&A with Insurance
Commissioner Ken Selzer.
Finally, Jennifer Webb, general counsel for the IIABA wrapped
up the day with an update about legislative issues on the
national level, as well as a forecast regarding the upcoming
