The visitors said the most significant difference is the scale of operations in Kansas. A farmer from Paris said the Domanns’ farm would be remarkably large by French standards. Janse Van Rensburg, who works for an insurance company in South Africa, was struck by the scale of the land and the size of the vehicles. “Everything is bigger,” said Van Renburg. “But the climate and stuff is about the same.” Rainer Langner, CEO of a German crop insurance company, said the main difference is that the U.S. crop insurance system puts more emphasis on risk management.
