True Story

On one of my first trips with Uber, I booked a ride to the airport. As per usual, I got into a conversation with the driver. Funny how I almost never feel the need to converse with drivers of other "taxi" services. The conversation soon took a turn towards the interesting when the driver started telling me about his time as an orthodontist in the jungle and how he used to play guitar on the long boat trips from village to village. He took special care to learn a few sentences in the native language and sing songs to the villagers.

The driver, Martin, had a great knack for storytelling and pretty soon we where chatting away like old friends, covering a wide range of topics including accidents, folk music, traveling, recording albums and poetry. In fact, we exchanged full names and soon became Facebook Friends.

During the following months I sporadically saw posts about his singer-songwriter gigs his participation and attendance at poetry events in down-town Lima.

So it's not that strange that when we saw the need to add an other contributor and spice up our poetry section, I thought of Martin, the Friendly-Uber-Driver. Luckily for us, he was excited to join us, and you can read his first Khipuz Article on page XXX
