The World of John Cale

MUSIC

John Cale was born in Wales on March 9th, 1942 during the middle of World War 2. His mother was a teacher, and she decided to only use the Welsh language with young John. This decision of his mother caused him to be alienated from this Father, who only spoke English. John did not begin to learn English until he entered Primary school!

His music ability took the young John Goldsmiths College and in the mid-sixties he took part in performances as part of the Fluxus Movement. Fluxus artists were a mix of Musicians, Performing Arts, and Visual Artists who found inspiration in the earlier Dada movement and artists such as Duchamp and Alfred Jarry. With the help of Aaron Copeland he travelled to the United States and continued his study and experimentation with music and performance.

In New York City Cale met a

number of influential composers.

On 9 September 1963 he

participated, along with John Cage

and several others, in an 18-hour

piano-playing marathon that was

the first full-length performance of

Erik Satie's "Vexations".He

co-founded the Velvet Underground

in 1965 with Lou Reed , and his

flatmate Angus MacLise and Reed's

college friend Sterling Morrison. Maureen Tucker took over as drummer

after the purist Maclise would not accept pay for play, and refused to

work for money, citing it as a sell out to “da man”. The Velvet

Underground & Nico (recorded in 1966, released in 1967) and White

Light/White Heat (recorded in 1967, released in 1968). On these albums

he plays viola, bass guitar and piano, and sings occasional backing

vocals. White Light/White Heat features Cale on organ (on "Sister Ray")

as well as two vocal cuts.

Cale released his sixteenth solo album M:FANS in January 2016. It features new versions of songs from his 1982 album Music for a New Society. It features new versions of songs from his 1982 album Music for a New Society. It was produced by John Cale. "Close Watch" was the album's lead single. It was released in November 2015 and it features Amber Coffman from Dirty Projectors. Cale arrives and performs in Lima will on Tuesday, March 1 in the National Grand Theatre .

John Cale is a artistic legend! The influence he has had on the music industry and the multimedia performing arts in immeasurable. The opportunity to see him in concert is not one to be missed!
