Death by Breathing

Normally I would tell you a little about what is inside our Magazine here, just to entice you to read on, but today I am going to vent!

Lima is the 249th most polluted city in the world according to the latest WHO reports. This is nothing to be proud of, there are a huge number of cities in the world. The average amount of particulates in the air of Lima is 16 tons per 2square kilometer! Some parts of the city it is as high as 45tons! Yet there is no heavy industry in Lima. No, this smog puke that covers everything and is invading our homes and our lungs is the result of the emissions of old buses, and cumbi's used in an antiquated transportation system one might expect to find in a remote mountain town, not in a major capitol city!

I recall that our clear headed, progressive thinking (dry sarcasm)Mayor in an attempt to clean up the city decided to paint over the art works of many nationally and internationally well known artists at the beginning of his tenure. Of course everyone knows that the real reason was to erase the work of the previously creative thinking and truly progressive Mayor. He is doing the same now by trying to dismantle the Blue Bus line she had implemented. He keeps over 133 brand new buses hidden in storage while the citizens he is here to serve and protect are slowly dying from air pollution. How can anyone put petty politics before the people he is sworn to serve is beyond me! Better he implement training programs for the Cumbi drivers and instigate scheduled bus routes through out the city! Then maybe we could all breath easier at night!

Inside there are a broad range of helpful topics for the artist, the gallery owner, and for the art enthusiast! We hope you will enjoy our June issue and invite you to write us with comments at [email protected].
