Climbing up the Tree exercise Ball game (if time allows) ESTABLISH BALL-GAME RULES FOR GROUP Group rules for ball games Aim: To establish group rules and to prevent injuries. Materials needed: Animal pictures (elephant, snake, lion, bird and buffalo) and cardboard Instructions: The facilitator writes the following rules beforehand on a piece of cardboard and leaves open spaces for the animal pictures next to each rule. - No pushing, hurting, tripping or hitting - No cheating - No swearing - Give everyone a fair chance - No wandering away Ask the group to indicate which animal belongs to which rule and paste the animal next to the rule. Put the rules up against the wall for everyone to see. In future sessions, refer to the rules, using the animal names given to them. Pair ball game Aim: To enhance group cooperation and self-esteem. Materials needed: Soccer ball, piece of cloth for each pair and a whistle Instructions: Pair soccer is played like normal soccer, except that the players are tied together in pairs. Divide the group into two teams. Ask the children to stand in pairs and to tie the leg of one child to the right leg of his or her group mate. Pair soccer should be played on soft ground. Pair soccer is a competitive game with a strong emphasis on teamwork. The pairs really have to work together to be able to run and kick the ball. Discussion: Ask the group what skills were necessary to play this game. Ask the group how they managed to play this game and congratulate them on their performance. ASSESSMENT Ask the children if they have any questions. At the end of the session, recap the important core concepts.
