Session 4:
SESSION 6:
THE EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE OF HAVING
HIV: 'HOW DO I FEEL?' (PART 2)
OBJECTIVES
The following objectives are set for Session 6:
At the end of the session the women should
-
have shared personal stories with the group;
-
have identified emotional responses and coping mechanisms used in difficult
or stressful times;
-
have experienced dealing with their emotions through externalisation; and
-
have shared information about their emotional reaction to crisis.
PREPARATION
Prepare for the discussion. It is important that you take yourself mentally through the
process of the type of questions that can be raised and reflect on how to facilitate the
group, so that the core concepts can be addressed. Have the group members' life maps
they drew in the previous session ready for them. Once again this session could be
quite emotional, and the facilitator needs to be sensitive to the needs of the members
of the group. This session may take half an hour longer than the usual one-and-a-half
hours.

Paper and pen to take the register and for notes on the session
