3)Hand-clapping game:
Materials needed: None
A simple (patty-cake) or more complex rhythmic clapping pattern.
Ask the child to show or teach you a clapping game if you can think of one.
4) Special handshake
Materials needed: None
Make up a special handshake together.
Take turns adding new gestures/moves, for example high 5, clasp hands, wiggle fingers and so discuss with your child when you could
use this special handshake.
c) Nurture
Aim: The idea is to reinforce the message that the child is worthy of care and that adults will provide care without the child having
to ask.
5) Cotton-ball touch:
Materials needed: Cotton balls
Have your child close his or her eyes.
Touch your child gently with the cotton ball. Have your child open his or her eyes and indicate where he or she was touched.
Ask your child how it felt being touched by the cotton wool.
6) Paint prints
Materials needed: Paint, paint brushes, water, towels, hand lotion, A4 paper.
Rub paint on one of the child's hands.
Press the painted hand onto paper to make a print.
After the prints are made with the paint, gently wash, dry and put lotion on the child's hands. Discuss with your child his or her print
and how unique a fingerprint is.
Discuss how special and unique he or she is, being just as unique as his or her fingerprint. Refer to specific characteristics.
d) Challenge
Aim: The idea is to help the child feel more competent and confident by encouraging the child to take a slight risk to accomplish an
activity with adult help.
7) Balloon between two bodies:
Materials needed: Balloons
Blow up a balloon.
Hold the balloon between you and your child (such as between your foreheads, shoulders, elbows) and move across the mat without
dropping or popping the balloon. See whether you can do it without using your hands.
After moving across the room, play a round of balloon tennis and try to keep the balloon in the air.
8) Newspaper basketball
Materials needed: Newspaper
Crush the newspaper pieces into balls.
Have the child toss a ball into the basket you make with your arms.
9) Feeding each other Smarties
Aim: Ending of activity
Materials needed: Small Smartie boxes for each child-mother pair.
