NURSERY Puppet Theatre Our Nativity Our first performance to a captive audience. Over the weeks before the Nativity production, the children practised little bits at a time and very much enjoyed learning the songs in Music lessons. I think we can all agree their first play was fabulous, and any little mishaps increased our enjoyment of the occasion. Hairdressers At the beginning of the Spring Term the Home Corner was transformed into a Hairdressing salon with pretend scissors, toy hairclips, aprons and brushes. A child may call up the barber and arrange an appointment at a certain time of day, then promptly arrive for their cut and blow dry or a simple trim. The conversations are stimulating and it is lovely to see how caring and attentive the children are when pampering their peers. The teachers in Nursery have had a wonderful time experiencing the magic of theatre as the children performed shows ranging from interpretations of their favourite stories to improvisations from the jungle. From ice palaces to treetops with sound effects and songs, the puppet theatre gives our children opportunities to build confidence, exchange ideas and extend their vocabulary. They have used this resource exhaustively and the benefits are self-evident in their communication skills.
