Reading to the younger children: Stepping into 2W with high spirits, I waited patiently to see who I was reading to and which engaging book I might read. I chose ‘The Rescue Princesses’! I realised I would be reading aloud to some of the younger girls; I could feel my heart beating faster and my legs shaking as I nervously opened the book and began to read. At the beginning I stumbled, I questioned if I could go on… but I found my confidence; the Year 2 pupil was desperate for me to read on so I continued with grace and certainty. As I read, I could tell the little girl was enjoying herself by the sweet, warm grin on her face – she looked like the Cheshire Cat! I thanked my pupil for listening to me read. She returned the same courtesy to me which I thought was endearing. Full of the joy that reading inspires, I glided out of the room contentedly. Elena Year 5 Author visit: Sarah Holding visited to tell us about the stories she has written and how she came up with her ideas and descriptions. She read a chapter from her book ’Sea Bean’, which is the first book in a trilogy. I was blown away by how amazing it was. It really made me want to read on. There was a particularly special thing about the cover – it was black but if you hold it in warm hands the colour changes leaving your handprint on the book. Poppy Year 3 87
