School Celebrations Book Day At Kew College, Book Day is a whole day‘s celebration to encourage children of all ages to come together to appreciate reading. By providing them with the opportunity to explore the pleasures of books with each other, we hope this wonderful day will contribute towards building a love of reading in all our pupils. It is hard to overemphasise the importance of reading in children’s development and at school we grasp every opportunity to do so. Inviting authors and illustrators into school adds to the excitement of reading. This year we were privileged to have authors Sarah Holding in to talk to the Junior House – and Bridget Marzo for the Infants. They regaled our pupils with fascinating in-sights into their lives as authors and the books they have written. Earlier in the year we enjoyed a morning with Lindsay Mattick who wrote ‘Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear’. There is nothing quite like author visits to get our children interested in reading, writing and understanding the whole creative process. They inspire those with a love of writing and ignite sparks to inspire others. As always, the children and staff at Kew College put their all into Book Day and show their own creativity in the costumes that they wear. 84
