NURSERY The Wetland Centre Nursery Red and Yellow had a fabulous visit to the London Wetland Centre in Barnes. We saw a variety of wildlife and immensely enjoyed our learning experience. Having escaped the confines of the coach we set about exploring the centre together, being careful not to scare any of the birds wandering about or swimming in their habitats. We saw some very pretty ducks, geese and swans from around the world. The otters were sound asleep and hidden in their holts so we couldn’t spot them, but we managed to dig out some insects and minibeasts. Led by our guide, we searched through the log garden with our magnifying glasses, lifting and heaving earth and wood. Much to the children’s delight, every group managed to find different minibeasts to inspect including spiders, woodlice, slugs, snails and, as our guide was soon to reveal, a very young spotted newt. Nursery thoroughly enjoyed this trip Bocketts Farm This was Nursery’s first ever full day school trip! The children and accompanying adults were filled to the brim with excitement. Once at the farm, the pupils enjoyed a tractor ride which gave them a wonderful panorama of the complex so they could view the larger farm animals roaming in the surrounding fields. Next, we gathered to see some goats being milked in a massive barn. A beautiful white nanny goat was brought over to us and was milked right before our eyes. It was amazing to see just how much milk a small goat could churn out. A variety of fluffy and furry animals were brought out for our pupils to marvel at as they held and stroked them. Packed lunches were the order of the day and when replete, the girls and boys visited the animals in the various barns dotted around, before going to see what was to become the highlight of the day - the pig races. We also took the opportunity to use the playhouse where everyone (adults included) tried out the massive slides. Suffice to say, it was a brilliant trip and left the children eager for the many more to come throughout their years at Kew College. 5
