Music
Music is thriving in and around the school, with
live music performances at every assembly, the
introduction of new music clubs, and an
entirely new curriculum. Music has been both
creative and challenging and our children have
demonstrated their enjoyment of the subject
through their dedication to their lessons and
clubs, and their excellent performances. We
have a diverse range of clubs on offer so that
the needs of every young musician are catered
for – this was evident at the recent Spring
Concert where all groups performed with
confidence. There has also been a higher
uptake of instrumental lessons this year – we
now offer lessons in piano, recorder,
saxophone, clarinet, flute, oboe, trumpet,
trombone, violin, cello, viola, acoustic guitar
and drums. During Music lessons, our children
have explored the core skills of singing,
listening, composing, and playing on different
instruments – such as keyboard, xylophone,
recorders, drums, and hand-held percussion,
whilst also learning to read musical notation. It
is such a joy to witness the excitement and
passion they have for the subject. Our new
curriculum will continue to challenge these
skills, and raise the standard of our public
performances.
Junior House Music
Throughout the year our Junior
House pupils have contributed
enthusiastically and successfully,
to every performance. They
gave a rousing performance at
the annual Carol Service in St
Anne's Church, and the Year 6
solos added to the positive
outcome. The Junior Vocal group
also delivered a show-stopping
performance at “Kew Sparkle” in
the village. Music has a very
clear presence in the school
through daily live performances,
regular clubs, and the echoes of
classroom learning being heard
around the playground - it is
clear that “music is fun!” and
enjoyed by all year groups.
Infant House Music
During the Autumn Term our infants delivered
exceptional quality Nativity plays providing
happy memories for parents for years to
come. The special Harvest Festival Assembly
also show-cased the excellent singing we have
in the lower part of the school. During the
Spring Term, Years 1 and 2 staged a concert
with very polished performances. The soloists
were of an impressively high standard with
piano, recorder, and even flute!
Meanwhile, Year 1 ventured to the Barbican
to take part in a special concert which the
whole year group really enjoyed. Singing along
to the London Symphony Orchestra is something the Year 1 pupils are very proud of.
