Year 4 Butser Ancient Farm Buster Ancient Farm is a real working farm and an open air research laboratory where the world of the Iron Age Celts and the Romans are explored. It is set in the stunning South Downs National Park. On the trip I learnt more about the Saxon way of life and what sort of houses they lived in. My favourite activity was archaeology. This activity let me know what tools were used and I am now excited to learn more! Emma My favourite activity was the Archaeological Dig. We were allowed to dig under the ground and find old objects and we then had to ask questions about our findings. Kayla We saw a Roman Villa, it had brick tiles and was quite advanced for how long ago the Romans lived. It had lots of rooms and central heating. Pictures of people decorated the walls and there was a fire in one of the walls. The Saxon Roundhouse was less advanced than the Roman Villa because it was only one huge room. Joseph J Our first activity was carving pictures onto chalk—we were shown how to squeeze a dock-leaf and rub it to get a colour on the chalk. We drew on our piece of chalk with flint. It looked easy but it was actually quite hard. Amelia J 25
