Year 1 Finding our feet Maths is such fun. We sorted 3D shapes using a Venn diagram and then went to hunt for the shapes all around the school. ‘I really enjoyed going on a shape hunt and being a shape detective.’ ‘We discovered that the down pipe in the playground is a cylinder!’ Maths is much more than writing in our Maths books. Working with a partner can be helpful when solving those more difficult maths problems. We learn through using Maths apps on the IPads, and we get to play lots of exciting Maths games. There are lots of tools in the classroom to help us count. ‘The bricks helped me count in twos, but I don’t need them any more.‘ ‘We know how to count in tens and ones using the colourful bead string. ‘ Maths sometimes gets a bit messy. We wanted to know how many cups of water would fill a jug. We estimated first then recorded our answers on a bar chart. ‘I guessed it would be 7 cups, but we needed 10 cups of water to fill the jug.’ 14
