Year 2 Gaining independence Nature Collection The Infant pupils’ faces lit up as they arrived at school to see that the Nature Collection had arrived for the day. It comprised an extraordinary collection of animal bones, skeletons, feathers, antlers, skins and photographs, and celebrates the urban wildlife that exists in our local environment. It gave our children the opportunity to study first hand, all kinds of wildlife objects from animals that are usually elusive and hard to spot. The collection served to charge the children’s curiosity and enthusiasm about the natural world, with many planning to get out and explore their local parks at the weekends! Year 2’s workshop began with an introduction about how the collection had been put together. Next, they had the opportunity to explore the artefacts, enjoying handling many of them and using magnifying glasses to examine others up close. Spring Concert Year 2 were thrilled to invite family and friends into school for their Spring Concert at the end of term. Guests were treated to solo performances from over half of the children in the year group, with children playing the piano, violin and flute, as well as singing. Each musician introduced their own piece with confidence and performed 16 with poise, a testament to the excellent tuition they receive from our peripatetic music teachers, as well as the many hours of practice they have put in at home. The whole of Year 2 came together to sing two songs linked to the theme ‘Colours of the Rainbow’, wh ich reflects the Kew College ethos of celebrating diversity.
