Kindergarten Laying the Foundations Creativity in Kindergarten Throughout Kindergarten the children have enjoyed engaging in a wide variety of creative opportunities to help them explore their imaginative potential; using paint, crafts, sculpture, Music, Drama and Dance. Our Art activities evolve from the themes and topics covered in our curriculum, including celebrations and special events. For Diwali, the children modelled and moulded clay Diva lamps and decorated them with beautiful coloured jewels. During History Day the children created a stunning dragon collage using their teamwork skills, and have thrived on exploring their own interests and ideas through junk modelling activities. Drama workshops, Assemblies and the Summer Play have revealed hidden theatrical talents and enabled the children to experience the thrill of performing to an enraptured audience. They look forward to continuing their creative explorations in Year 1. Pizza Express It was a cool, Autumn morning when an excited group of children set off on their first trip as Kindergarten pupils. Strolling through the leaves, proudly wearing their Kew College reflective jackets, they headed down Cumberland Road to Pizza Express. They were welcomed on arrival by a friendly pizza chef and instructed to wash their hands, putting into practice the good hygiene rules they follow each day in school. Eagerly anticipating the arrival of the pizza dough, the children donned their own chef hats and aprons and watched a fantastic demonstration of how to make the perfect pizza. The onlookers were amazed when the dough was spun in the air to stretch the base. The pizza chef explained that many of the foods gathered at harvest time can be used to make delicious pizzas; linking perfectly with our work on Harvest Festival. Then the magic really began, as it was the children’s turn to create their own pizzas! They loved exploring the 8 different textures, as they kneaded the dough and turned the base. “I liked flattening the dough and putting it upside down again and again,” exclaimed Luke. The children swirled the tomato puree over the base and sprinkled the top with mozzarella cubes and herb garnish. “Sprinkling the cheese was fun. It felt soft and squishy” said Isabella. Once in the oven, the room was filled with the delicious aroma of the pizzas as they baked until golden brown. On return to school, the pupils reflected upon their favourite events of the day, enthusiastically recalling the wonderful hands-on experience they had had in being able to create their own home-made pizzas. Of course, the pinnacle moment was when they enjoyed eating a slice and sampling their own delicious cooking!
