School Celebrations Founder’s Day What a spectacular way to celebrate the school’s landmark 90 th birthday! The smiles that lit the children’s faces were a delight to behold as they arrived to see their school adorned in beautiful ribbon, cunningly disguised as a ‘Big Top’. The day got off to a melodious start with the Wind Band playing a medley of Happy Birthday, Harry Potter, Star Wars and the Great Escape to welcome the children, whilst Year 6 leapt straight into action as they faced the challenges of the climbing wall. In the Hall, the pupils were found jammin’ to the sounds of the steel pans, whilst target practice under the red and white awnings in the playground allowed everyone the chance to emulate Robin Hood himself: our keen young archers took to the bow and arrow skilfully and accurately. Meanwhile, the Infants enjoyed a fun-packed day with their bouldering wall, a room filled with minibeasts and action-packed circus skills. Whilst fun was undoubtedly a major part of the experience, serious learning also took place as children came out of their comfort zone to scale to great heights, work with diablos or spinning plates, challenge their target shooting skills or learn how to play the steel pans – all of these activities serve to develop co-ordination, improve balance and concentration and lengthen attention span. Additionally, we were delighted to welcome a group of musicians from Kew House School who sang beautifully and with such passion that the room fell silent as the children sat transfixed by the music. Yet again the foyer was adorned with another culinary masterpiece, mouth-wateringly enticing and parents excelled in their wonderful cake creations for all of our pupils to eat. 94
