School Celebrations Reading to the younger children: As part of Book Day, Year 5 children were able to read aloud to the younger children. I felt excited about this. Rachel came and sat next to me and I showed her my two books. Together we read and discussed the stories. Without feeling shy, I was able to express the feelings and emotions of the characters in the books. I had a wonderful time reading to Year 2 children and hope to do it again. Jemima Year 5 Love of reading: I dressed up as Percy Jackson on Book Day because I love the books by Rick Riordan and I wanted to be the very brave Percy Jackson for the day! He has such amazing adventures and there’s always a quest he has to solve. My favourite quest is in the first book, ‘The Lightning Thief’ because the end of the book is ominous. I had ‘Camp Half- Blood Hill’ on my t-shirt, it is a hill which nothing evil can attack; it’s where the warriors like Percy Jackson train to be fighters. Benedict Year 5 Costumes: This year’s Book Day costumes were stunning. There were lots of brightly coloured characters, a jolly Mad Hatter, a poor ‘Leopard Who Lost His Spots’, three spoilt Veruca Salts (I was one myself) and many more. I thoroughly enjoyed the splendid ceremony that was held in the playground, where all the different classes paraded in their finery. Everyone got to see all the costumes and my personal favourite was ‘Cruella De Vil’ who wore a dazzling costume, huge accessories and had her hair dyed black and white – she truly looks evil! The effort everyone made to dress up as book characters made this Book Day the best ever. Stanzi Year 5 93
