School Celebrations Book Day Book Day at Kew College is a much anticipated and much loved event every year. Children and staff rise to the occasion donning costumes to represent their favourite characters and the Book Day Parade never fails to surprise and delight. As the children swarmed excitedly into the building in their wonderful array of costumes, they were greeted by an army of bugs in honour of our Junior House author, M.G. Leonard, who hosted a series of inspirational writing workshops. Meanwhile, we had the pleasure of welcoming renowned illustrator Loretta Schauer for the EYFS and Infant House, who ran her sessions surrounded by some truly terrifying monsters designed by the children. During the day, the children immersed themselves in all things book- related, including quiet reading, sharing stories they had written, reading to the younger children and book quizzes and games. A highlight for EYFS and the Infant House was the Hungry Caterpillar wriggling its way to visit all the classes to share its famous story! Reading to the younger children remains one of the favourite activities of the day for both the readers and the recipients. Promoting a love of reading is high on the agenda at Kew College, particularly evident during days like this when children of all ages come together to share the chance to get lost in another world, fall in love with characters and engage with new ideas. 90
