Music Junior House Music CAROL SERVICE The annual Carol Service is a highlight of the year. Set in the beautiful surroundings of St Anne’s church on Kew Green, all Junior House children participate in this traditional service as part of a choir. The impact of over 100 children singing is wonderful to behold and thoroughly rewarding for all those involved. There is a repertoire of traditional carols, Bible readings, and more modern Christmas music. The sheer enjoyment factor is evident throughout the service; the older years maintain a haunting 2-part harmony, whilst the younger voices in the choir demonstrate their enthusiasm when singing well-known simple carols, their faces lit up like angels. KEW SPARKLE and VOICE IN A MILLION Our choirs also like to get involved with community performances, such as the annual event in the village, and “Voice in a Million” at Wembley Arena. Kew Sparkle is a wonderful way to start the Christmas period and our choir perform a rendition of up-beat classics, such as “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” to get everyone in a festive mood. A highlight event for our choirs this year was the “Voice in a Million” Concert at Wembley Arena where our pupils participate in a repertoire of pop and contemporary songs along side thousands of other children. The atmosphere at Wembley is hard to beat; the energy and enthusiasm that our singers gave for this special performance was unforgettable. SPRING CONCERT The annual Spring Concert is an opportunity for all instrumental players and singers to show case their talent through a wide variety of repertoire ranging from traditional classical music to more contemporary music, such as this year’s theme which was ’Music from Movies.’ Every music ensemble is invited to perform in the Spring Concert, and each year group has its own choir. The Recorder Club, String Group, Beatz Club, and Wind Band usually perform and many of our instrumentalists undertake solo performances. At the heart of this concert are our singers and we continue to build on this through the wide variety of choirs that we offer at the school. 71
