Year 4 visited the Victoria and Albert Museum for ar s c inspira on . We saw the most beau ful and awe inspiring crea ons from many different cultures . Jake said ,’ It was like a magic carpet ride around the world and across me .’
Royalty and wealthy families in ancient China wore robes made from silk , called tunics . This dragon robe is typical of garments worn by ancient Chinese emperors . Dragons are considered a sign of power and yellow was a royal colour . The intricate embroidery took many hours of work to complete and the gold thread and silk used were very expensive . Nicholas
Men in Japan used to wear kimonos which didn ’ t have pockets . They would have a small decora ve container called an inro in which to carry medicine or a seal for le ers . The inro hung off the sash of the kimono and the job of the netsuke was to stop the inro from slipping off . They were made to be smooth , so they would not catch on the silk of the kimono . Scarle
The Middle East is famous for its beau ful carpets woven with intricate designs . These precious carpets were made for royalty , wealthy homes and temples . They were very valuable as they were made of silk and took many years to weave . An ar st would sketch the design first , usually using symmetrical pa erns and ideas from nature . To make a superior carpet , the weaver would have to e at least 400 knots per square inch . Harry

The emperor would greet his subjects in this red lacquer throne . It had layers of lacquer to create the deep red colour and to make it durable . Beau ful designs were cut into the lacquer . Marcus
