Year 1

Princess of Wales Conservatory

As part of our Geography curriculum this year , we have been studying desert and tropical climates . A trip to the Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew Gardens allowed us to explore and iden fy plants from ten different climate zones including cac , orchids and carnivorous plants . Zac L . was excited to see the pink and yellow pineapples on the pineapple plant and pointed out that they were s ll growing . Alannah was intrigued by the cocoa plant and said the smell reminds her of chocolate . She wondered whether she could eat it . From the wet tropics to arid lands , we enjoyed using our senses when comparing the climates in each of the zones . Daniel felt hot and could hear water running when he walked through the tropical rainforest . He said that his skin felt a bit wet . When walking through the desert zone , Olivia-Grace explained how the cactus stores water in its spikes . Pip was excited to spot a desert animal and said that the lizard was scaly and looked like a dinosaur . It was a wonderful experience for the children .
