Construction

Our local NGO partner, Child’s Dream, establishes a close partnership with the community leaders and the school management when developing educational infrastructure projects to ensure a more successful outcome. This is seen in terms of successfully meeting educational needs and supporting community development that leads to greater sustainability.

At Keo Pich Primary School the community was encouraged to actively participate in the construction. This participation gives villagers a stronger sense of pride and ownership of their project. The community is responsible for maintaining all infrastructure. For this project, the community contributed by filling the foundation for construction, constructing a school fence and organizing the opening ceremony which took place on 29 March 2019.

A local contractor, with whom Child's Dream has successfully implemented other projects in the past was chosen and was in charge of sourcing all required construction materials, labour and furniture and to transport everything to the site. The contractor was paid in accordance with the progress of construction. As a warranty for the quality of the work, 5% of the total cost is being held back for 6 months.

The construction started on 7 December 2018. During the following months, the Child's Dream project team visited the construction site several times to ensure that high-quality standards were being met. Once the project was underway, it ran smoothly and there were no major challenges. 8 March 2019 marked the official completion date. The community and the government collaborated in overseeing the construction process and we are all very satisfied with the building progress and the final outcome.
