Horror World Cup Draw
For African Teams
The
five African representatives will be facing an uphill
struggle in Brazil after a ‘horror’ world cup draw was unveiled on Friday.
GROUP A (CAMEROON)
Cameroon will face the hosts Brazil, Croatia and Mexico. A tough
group considering the west African nation are not as indomitable as
they were back then. It is really hard to see them progressing past
this group. Croatia and Mexico may not be better defensively but they
may prove uncomfortable opponents for Cameroon.
GROUP C (IVORY COAST)
African representatives in group C Ivory Coast, seems to have finally
slaughtered a white goat to appease the footballing gods. They have
been in tough groups in the past two world cups so I think they are
currently breathing a sigh of relief. That being said, this group still
contains quality teams and it will be up to Didier Drogba’s golden
generation to prove that they are still valuable. They face the fourth
best team in the world right now according to the latest FIFA rankings
in Colombia. Other teams include Asian powerhouses Japan and the
gritty Greeks who have kept eight clean sheets in their last 10 matches
which is essentially more than any other nation. Their power and experience will be key if they are to qualify.
GROUP G (GHANA)
Going by the form book, Ghana is arguably the best team in Africa
and carries the heavy burden of improving on their quarterfinal finish.
