Carpenter 20 22 I am excited to announce that the Lexington Medical Society has assumed the focus and editorial direction of Kentucky Doc magazine, beginning with this Spring edition. We have the nucleus of a new editorial board, which is composed entirely of physicians. This undertaking is a work in progress, and our current goals are to redesign the editorial thrust and organization of Kentucky Doc magazine. In the upcoming iterations, we will present a column authored by the current LMS president, an advocacy column focusing upon our profession, and, when appropriate, reviewing legislation that may impact medical practice. We also are planning a “hot topic” column for two physicians to take contrasting sides of a medical issue and debate the topic. Dr. Patterson will continue his prior columns on physician health/wellbeing and also highlight a compassionate physician in a separate column. We are expanding our current audience of Fayette County physicians to include those holding medical and osteopathic licenses to practice within the defined Central Kentucky area. Our inaugural Spring issue brings the unique and interesting lives of our physician colleagues to you with LMS president Rice Leach, MD’s portrayal of Pikeville pediatrician Steve Davis as a practitioner of “population medicine”. Then Lowell Quenemoen, MD profiles the Frankfort Regional Medical Center while John Patterson, MD introduces us to the professional experiences of pediatrician Bill Underwood, MD. Bob Granacher, MD calls for the physician community to address suicide risk in our physicians and he also presents the international missions of anesthesiologist Phil Hall, MD as he travels to provide medical services to the war-torn and underprivileged in Syria, Sudan and Guatemala. Immediate LMS past-president Tom Waid, MD shares the new strategic plan for the LMS. For our enjoyment, the Sampler Publications staff reviews the life and times of Alois Alzheimer, MD, the vagaries of the Tower of London and the compelling features of Hilton Head Island. Enjoy! Robert P. Granacher Jr., M.D., M.B.A. As a result of this new focus, we will report what physicians are doing outside their workplace and also feature those organizations or facilities providing medical service within the Central Kentucky area. We will present a science-based article featuring “clinical perils.” Moreover, we later will include a resident/ medical student column with at least one issue yearly devoted to students at the beginning of each medical school year, and the remaining three quarterl 䁥
