FROM THE CLERGY Parish Directory ReGULAR WORSHIP ST MARY ABBOTS And yet some absences are necessary to allow new things to happen. The Church has now entered Ordinary Time. Now that Ascension and Pentecost have passed, we move from the story of Jesus to that of the early Church. This moment in the story - when Jesus becomes absent - echoes the absences we experience when there are changes in the Christian ministry on which we rely. More profoundly, it echoes the moments when God Himself appears to be absent from our lives. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the one Gospel writer (Luke) who focuses on the moment when Jesus becomes absent is also the one who tells the story of the early Church (in the Acts of the Apostles). Luke understood - perhaps like no one else at the time - that the remarkable growth in the early church would not have been possible without the absence of Jesus, without the Ascension. The absence of Jesus makes possible an entirely new way of experiencing his presence. None of this changes the reality that absence is often painful. Many absences are damaging and hurtful. Some absences are plain wrong. But sometimes out of them something new and unexpected can happen. And sometimes an absence is the only way in which things can move forward, in which the genuinely new can find a space to happen. 8 | 2014 Spring Sundays 8.00 am Holy Eucharist 9.30 am SUNG EUCHARIST with Creche & Sunday School 11.15 am Choral Matins & Sermon 12.30 pm Holy Eucharist 6.30 pm Evensong with Sermon & Holy Eucharist 1st Sunday of month: Taize Prayer & Holy Eucharist Mondays 8.30 am Morning Prayer 1.05 pm Sunday on Monday service 5.30 pm Evening Prayer Tuesdays 8.30 am Morning Prayer 11.30 am Holy Eucharist Book of Common Prayer 5.30 pm Evening Prayer Wednesdays 7.10 am Morning Prayer 7.30 am Holy Eucharist 2.00 pm 3rd Weds in the month: Holy Eucharist with Laying-on of Hands & Anointing 5.30 pm Evening Prayer Thursdays 7.10 am Morning Prayer 9.30 am St Mary Abbots School Eucharist in term time - all welcome 5.30 pm Evening Prayer Fridays 7.10 am Morning Prayer 7.30 am Holy Communion 5.30 pm Evening Prayer Saturdays 9.40 am Morning Prayer 10.00 am Holy Eucharist 5.30 pm Evening Prayer Clergy, wardens, vestry and office   Children’s Safeguarding Officer: Electoral Roll Officer:   THE PARISH Samantha Giles   James Dunford-Wood Vicar of the Parish Associate Vicar Honorary Assistant Priest Parochial Church Wardens   020 7937 6032 020 7937 2364 020 3686 1513   07732 743 228   020 7937 0765     07702 829859 07732 842894     [email protected]   [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]     [email protected]   [email protected]   Associate The   Parish Administrator: Vicar Susan Russell Rev’d Jenny Welsh 7937 2419   2364 [email protected] 020 020 7937 [email protected]   ST MARY ABBOTS   The Rev’d Peter Stubbs Honorary Priest Honorary Assistant Priest The Rev’d Julia Hedley Deputy Churchwardens for St Mary Abbots Church: James Dunford-Wood Vestry/Virger St Mary Abbots Centre Director of Music Stewardship Secretary Children on Sunday / Children’s Champion Friends of St Mary Abbots Bellringers   Kensington Parish News Friday Playgroup 020 8868 8296 [email protected] 020 3686 1513 [email protected] Carole-Anne Phillips George MacAllan Adam Norton (Manager) Mark Uglow Emma Porteous 07732 842 894 020 7937 3448 020 7937 5136 [email protected] 020 7937 8885 [email protected] [email protected] 07866 258 814 [email protected] Alexandra Swann David Banks (Chairman) David Holdridge (Secretary) Fiona Braddock (Editor) Laura Sylvester [email protected] 07732 743 228 [email protected] 07904 954 959 [email protected] [email protected] 07770 920 085 [email protected] CHRIST CHURCH On MAJOR FEASTDAYS additional Services also offered: see the Bulletin & Noticeboard.
