Music and Music Technology
Key Information
Why study this course?
Music and Music Technology scored excellent results in the latest
student surveys, with very high satisfaction rates, well above sector
average: our students like us very much!
Combining Music and Music Technology at Keele enables you to balance
tradition and innovation. With Music, you’ll develop historical and critical
understanding in a practical environment, composing, performing,
recording and studying music from a diversity of styles and periods.
Music Technology, meanwhile, enables you to become fluent in the
creative application of technology in composition, music production,
sound design, screen music, audio-visuals and music software.
Interactions between the two subjects include popular music, where
recording and production are balanced by analysis and performance;
composition, where acoustic and digital instruments meet; and screen
music, where composing for film, TV and multimedia is enriched by the
critical study of film scoring history and aesthetics. Graduates boast
high levels of musical knowledge and skill, advanced technological
competence, and the creativity to thrive in diverse environments.

Technology, First year
Learning both subjects here
at Keele I can comprehensively
say…I love it! People joke
about ‘the Keele bubble’ but
it’s even more so the case at
the Clockhouse! You quickly
become part of the musical
family enabling you to grow
your musical knowledge and
skills tenfold. The 24-hour
access to the facilities is a
massive bonus that really helps
when you have that late night
burst of ideas but everything’s
closed, plus it’s right here within
walking distance and everyone
is so welcoming. What more
could you possibly want?
