Education and Sociology
Key Information
Why study this course?
Education and Sociology provide the perfect combination if you are
interested in the connections between education and the societies in
which we live.
If you choose this combination, you will study educational topics such
as the nature of learning, the history of education, and educational
policies and practices that aim to promote inclusion and social cohesion.
Our Sociology programme will provide you with a grounding in the
core concerns of the discipline, develop your skills in social research,
and enable you to explore a range of contemporary social issues.
In the Education strand, you will explore changes in policy and practice,
as well as the effects of factors such as class, race and gender on
educational success. The Sociology strand explores how we live as
individuals and as members of communities in a world characterised by
rapid social, economic and cultural change. The combination of degree
subjects offers you the opportunity to apply your learning to some of the
most important challenges facing society today.

Education and Sociology,
First year
I love the way the modules have
subjects that cover many domains;
for example, an education module
may include art, history and
politics. It is a privilege to be able
to learn a subject from so many
perspectives and at the same
time be able to link, compare
and contrast all of them.
