Teaching and assessment
Teaching consists of lectures, seminars, individual tutorials
and workshops. Much of the work you will be required to do is
coursework, either in the form of essays or, portfolios, posters,
projects, exams or presentations and in your final year an 8,000 to
10,000 word dissertation.
Skills and careers
This dual honours degree provides a firm foundation for a career
in teaching or postgraduate study in either discipline. Graduates
interested in going into primary or secondary teaching may wish to
consider applying to either of the two School-centred Initial Teacher
Training (SCITTS) programmes that Keele is in partnership with, which
leads to the award of a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE),
along with a recommendation for (Qualified Teacher Status QTS).
Furthermore, Education and Sociology students have the opportunity
to develop and demonstrate skills that will equip them for life in a
rapidly changing world, including the ability to find and analyse data;
to think clearly and creatively; to communicate effectively; and to
work independently and as a member of a team ensuring that they
find employment in a range of occupations. As both Education and
Sociology involve the study of people and society, many graduates
go on to target people focused careers such as social and welfare
professions (social worker, counsellor and community development
officer) as well as the health service, cultural and media industries,
market research and legal and criminal justice work.
